Rock City is just across the Georgia line.

The Incline Railway Story, in Its Own Words
- What it isA funicular railway, “over a hundred and thirty years old,” with two counterbalanced trains on a single track of about a mile.
- The 2024 fireIts site says a wildfire on December 7, 2024 severely damaged the railway, and that CARTA restored it; new railcars are in service.
- At the bottomThe St. Elmo station sits among shops and restaurants. At the top, the railway’s site lists SoHi Pizza and a bar.
Getting Around
VisitChatt says the downtown neighborhoods can be reached by a free electric shuttle, bike share or on foot. Lookout Mountain is a separate climb: the Incline is one way up. Driving time from downtown to Point Park or Ruby Falls: Not confirmed
